Vista Gps
Is it good to have GPS in critical situations?

I am a backpacker Avid / off-road and I'm thinking high-tech handheld GPS unit (Garmin Vista HCx). He has lost a few times, but always seem to find the exit. I also like the excess products / trash when I'm packing 60 pounds. Is it worth the weight, trouble and expense?

My personal feeling is without a GPS when you go outdoors and take the risk of being lost is no longer an option when the GPS is available at a very reasonable price. GPS have been many times he saved the lives of many people and bring them back to safety. Moreover, if you do without one, is like making without matches, lighter, knife, light, first aid kit etc., you may be able to get away with it but it's smart that you can do. If you feel a GPS can not be worth the cost to wonder if you own car and life insurance, why do you have the insurance policy? Due that there is a small chance that you get into an accident or ill hit? So are most likely to lose as you mentioned who have lost a few already Sometimes, the serum is taking a risk when you do not have to. I will go one step further and recommend to consider not only GPS but a 2-way radio as the Garmin GPS Rino has to offer, a good 2 way radio with GPS SiRF III high sensitivity GPS can get you out of trouble if a search party looking for you and you are able to communicate with people who are looking for you when you need help. You can learn more about the system of GPS Radio in the Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc website http://www.autonav2000.com/mall/anProdList2.asp?GroupID=78 You can also consider renting a GPS GPS4Rent when you hike so you do not have to buy one. http://gps4rent.com/products.php?category_id=6&go=View+Available+Models http://gps4rent.com/ products.php? category_id = 4 & go = View + available + models good luck
