How do I know which power unit is compatible with a new video card and my current devices?

I'm running Windows XP and I'm upgrading my old graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X,) to something that has a pixel shader 3.0 and I found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx? Item = N82E16814121222. I'm pretty sure it will work with my system except for my PSU. Now I only have 250w and the new card needs 400w. I do not know much about PSU, but this is what my current reads: MODEL NO: ATX-250GU (P4) AC INPUT: 115/230V ~, 6/3A, 60/50Hz DC OUTPUT: 250W +3.3 V — 14.0A (ORG), +5 V — 25.0A (RED), +12 V — 8.0A (YEL) +5 VSB — 2.0A (PURP),-5V — 0.3A (WHI), 12V — 0.8A (BLU) PG Signal (Gray), GROUND (BLACK) Fuse: 6.3A, 250V ~ (+3.3 V and +5 V = 135W Max), so we need to know for sure what the PSU in a new before you buy. Oh yes, my Mobo is AMD Athlon 64 processor 2800 + ~ Thanks for the information on the power, but what about other things like 20 or 24 pin? I do not know much about him, so I do not know how to do.

I could not find anything more specific than you did in regard to the minimum power of 400W. As suggested earlier, you'd better get something in the range of 500W-600W amplifier with a level of 20-25 amps on 12V rail. That should be more than enough "juice" for your card. Be a little careful with the amplifier cards Low … that can not supply enough power for graphics-intensive applications. EDIT: As for your motherboard pins, most current generation PSUs come from a 20 +4 plug which means that they conform to the 20 and 24 pin configurations. Your card probably has a connector on the motherboard 20 pin so would well buy a PSU that states 20 +4 main connector. Good luck!
