Brawn Grand Prix Formula One Team History
Brawn race is a Formula One team based in Brackley in South Northamptonshire, England, formed from the ashes of the Honda Racing F1 Team on March 6th 2009. In December 2008, Honda revealed that they were going to pull the plug on its Formula One team in an attempt to save the company money during the Honda global financial crisis worsens.
This left the best financing and better equipped Formula One teams in the country in limbo while the management team tried to find a buyer for the team and save jobs in addition 700 workers of teams in Brackley HQ. Between December 2008 and February 2009 a number of names of potential buyers "were being released by the media and the team leader, Nick Fry, claimed the management was negotiating with the buyers of a dozen possible. The media reported that the team is close to being saved a number of times by parties, including Prodrive, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim and "a consortium of Brazilian investors, however, none of these became a reality and soon was looking likely that the only realistic option was to repurchase.
In February 2009 came to light that the management of Honda were in talks Richard Branson of Virgin Group, and that seemed destined to buy the equipment but the speculation ended when Richard Branson revealed he was interested in F1 but only once certain conditions are met, namely that the costs have been reduced and that the sport was to defend the green technology.
On March 6, 2009, Honda Motor Company and the former Honda Racing F1 Team announced that the team management had saved the shop from the repurchase of technical director Ross Brawn and the new team GP Brawn was born. The team was to test their car for the first time in an official test at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona March where he performed very well, establishing an unofficial lap record in the process. The team was accused of directing the weight of cars in a bid to attract sponsors to help to finance the computer novice but these claims were denied by the team. Others accused the team along with Williams and Toyota rivals of having an illegal rear diffuser under the new rules 2009, appropriations were also denied by the three teams. What the charges were dropped against the team, nobody can deny that it looks like Brawn GP had a very competitive car that could become one of the fastest race reached the first season in Australia.
Roll on the final weekend March and it was time for the start of the 2009 Formula One season, over the weekend Brawn GP showed that is the pace in pre-season testing was not a bluff and actually had one of the best cars on the grid. They tested this by first locking out the front row in qualifying and then going on to secure a historic 1-2 finish in the race, which was only the third time in history that had gotten a new computer.
