The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy â € ", a retrospective
The original â € € WARSA Oester was a film trilogy reference point and a fond fixture in popular culture. I was not lucky enough to see the original trilogy in his first race in the film but gave me time to see the special editions that is updated when released. My introduction to the original films on television, and constantly re-watch them on video. I remember going through a œEmpireâ € € the majority and the darker scenes â € € œJediâ conveniently fast forward through scenes with ewoks. The original trilogy offered strong storytelling, compelling characters and pleasant, and spectacular visuals and a soundtrack by the fascinating master composer John Williams.
So where does the trilogy new battery against the original brilliantly done? I suppose it depends on how look.
â € œThe Phantom menacée €, or â € € œEpisode I'ma generated an unprecedented amount of anticipation, so much so that there was no way this movie was going to live up to expectations. I was trapped in any doubt, having pre-bought tickets a week earlier and was ready for an entirely new Star Wars movie.
The only thing I remember after leaving the theater, that day was visually overwhelmed. I really I did not know what to think. I do not remember feeling anything negative about the movie, or positive, for that matter. I felt I'd seen something that was totally different from the movies original, and my retinas needed to adapt to the real world after being bombarded with the cinemaa ™ € s most overloaded and detailed CGI shots in the history. Visually, the film was much to the process.
Unlike many fans, I do not hate Jar Jar, I do not hate Jake Lloyd, and, in general, I do not hate what I saw. Looking back, I realized that I enjoyed despite being a little â € ~ lite € ™ in history, but looking at the context of the films originals and the prequels, there were some major problems, one of Darth Maul was criminally underused.
â € € œAttack Del Clonesâ seems to get the gong for the â € ~ Star Wars dumbest titleâ € ™. We were promised darker tone, but I'd say we have a â € ™ € ~ shades instead of tone. This film presents the world of young Hayden Christensen as Anakin, and soon to be evil Darth Vader. Not good. Christensen seemed misplaced to me, and most of it seems lost in a complicated role. In the end, damages the films ™ € s standing only marginally due that the film is really about images, action and the universe ends melodrama, but somehow manages to make â € œThe Phantom € menacée as a solid piece.
The plot of â € € achieves install œEpisode IIa as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and the creation of Troops Assault seen in the original trilogy, so in this sense, itâ € ™ s â € ~ long Meater € ™ to â € I'ma œEpisode €. An all digital Yoda is a revelation and a masterpiece of CGI and voicework. A friend told me that at the time that could have only had two minutes Yoda fight scene on loop for two hours and probably would have made more money than he did.
And then came œRevenge â € of € Sitha. For many fans, this was the film that I'ma œEpisode € â € should have been. Itâ € ™ s easily the best of the prequels, primarily because really fosters a sense of sinister drama, and because it contains no fat in storytelling: a negative effect important for the other prequels. This was a nice movie to see, and for the first time, almost all CGI really looked perfect. And you have to see some great moments in particular, nothing to do with Palpatine and his transformation into the emperor of the universe. The last twenty minutes of the film are unexpected from a tone standpoint, you really have not seen anything that dark in a Star Wars movie, but it is very welcome from the dramatic point of view.
Upon seeing the prequels, if not too Nitpick in what you saw, you'll find them all a very cinematic experience enjoyable and worth the price of admission. Of course, Star Wars fans will nit-pick. And it would be justified in doing so, because the prequels do not hold up well under control.
George Lucas said in the documentary â € € œEpisode DVD that I'ma two trilogies of rhyme, in essence, similar things occur in both trilogies, but the stories ultimately end up in different ways based on the results different in crucial moments. If this concept of rhyme is accurate, why Anakin nine years œEpisode IA € â € while Luke has eighteen years or less in VAT œEpisode â € €? Why not Darth Maul a central figure in œEpisode IA € â € â as Darth Vader ŒEpisode VAT € €? Where was the character of Jar Jar Binks style œEpisode € â € VAT? I could go on and on. You may have been trying to get the trilogies be synchronous, but it did not.
Then it's just general laziness in storytelling, most likely due the fact that there was enough history to keep three movies. Anakina € ™ s turn, the dark side is completely arbitrary. In â € œEpisode IIIA €, which happens to be in conflict about Palpatine and the desire to serve the Jedi to become Darth Vader in a matter of minutes. In â € œEpisode IIa €, we see only Anakina € ™ s the mother of a scene, but her death is the beginning of Anakin € ™ s journey to the dark side. I would have thought that spending more time developing the most important scenes of the trilogy that has the way forward instead of endless scenes of CGI (the Wookie battle or the pod Race comes to mind). Although I do not hate Jar Jar, they do not really have a place in the structure of the story of six films, apart from the sale of toys (well, George was relevant œEpisode IIa € â € but I think it was more due to fan reaction to anything else).
Events most important of the trilogy are glazed but that's what we came to see. Ewan McGregor once said prequels were about € ~ â € ™ background And it is true, the images are quite amazing. It's a shame the same level of detail does not apply to scripts.
In many ways, the trilogy is the modern incarnation of the successful, entertaining for a couple of hours, and perhaps even a repeat of some visions, but ultimately disposable. That can be a little hard because they are better than most of blockbusters that have come out of Hollywood in recent years but also the Star Wars films, and probably deserves a better deal. You never reach the watermark of the original trilogy, nor should they. They are different movies for a different generation. For fans I would say, enjoy them for what they are and are not comparable. It's really the only way to see the prequels.
