A review of the Phillips portable DVD player
I evaluated some of the best portable DVD players out there, so do not expect much when I recently took the Philips PET824 for a test drive, but I must say it is a very nice machine. although somewhat flimsy ooks at first glance, the machine is indeed very well built and very durable. It feels like it could have a very difficult operation and still work.
Never possessed or used a portable Philips DVD in the past, so therefore I was curious to discover all the pros and cons of this model and then check out some others to get a good feel for the whole line. With my attention enough encouragement, I began to investigate a series of other models more closely.
There is an aspect consistent for all players from Philips. High gloss semi-soft plastic with rounded corners and edges are a design firm Philips. Compared to other brands comparable screen size, Philips portable DVD is also a little heavier and taller when you close the lid. Open it and the simple, intuitive controls are easily accessible.
Picture quality is very good. Philips promotes a feature known as the "bright dot policy, which states to enforce a strict intolerance of any LCD defect known as bright spots. Who knows how much of that is marketing hype, but they do make a LCD screen that creates a brilliant picture quality. I was surprised to learn that each model from Philips was able to play a long list of file formats. This means that DVD +, MPEG4, DivX and music files can be played on all machines. This is an area where Philips seems to excel against their competitors. Many other manufacturers not provide this level of flexibility in their units in this price range.
Most models only have 1 headphone jack, which is rather disappointing at these prices, but if you can ignore the sound quality is very respectable indeed. As is the case with everyone, but the higher end portable DVD players, speakers on board to produce acceptable sound quality. A pretty decent set of headphones the sound quality improved significantly.
Depending on model, can anticipate 4 to 6 hours of battery life, which is not bad by contrast. But, this battery performance comes at a cost, such as Philips batteries are a little big and heavy when stacked next to the drives from the competition.
So the bottom line is that the machines of the players Philips Portable DVD are very good at the midpoint of the price and quality field. Prices range from about $ 125 to around $ 250. Although my opinion, these machines in general as well, the truth is that you can get comparable quality at a lower price of different brands, so be sure to draw some comparisons before buying.
