Does this number make sense?
I am 5 feet 11 inches, weight 237 pounds. I just bought a heart rate monitor with a chest strap that calculates burn calories during exercise. I decided to use it in a kind of field training in the gym 24 hours. It was a really intense work out. I could not keep the pace on the road. I have been working steadily for nearly a year, so I'm not totally out of shape. Anyway, the end of my work, my management Human Resources said that burned 1323 calories. It was an hour of intense workout without breaks in between. I wondered if that number makes sense, or is too high to be credible? Thanks
That number seems high. To burn many calories, you'd be running, not running, for a whole hours – unless, of course, your heart is having to work extra hard (and this is not a good thing). Checking the monitor – can not be calibrated correctly. The weight, burn anywhere from 700 to 1,200 calories in an hour of intense exercise. You can verify the number with this online calculator: http://www.fatburn.com/free_tool_activity_burn.asp High Impact Aerobics – 792 calories Running 7 mph (8.5 min / mile) – strong 1301 Elliptical Trainer (anaerobic) – 1188 Vigorous weight lifting – 679 Use your heart rate monitor as another tool in your arsenal of weight loss, not as the final authority. The final authority, as always, is your waist at the navel.
