Teach your child Spanish as a second language

It is common knowledge that in the world today is very beneficial to learn a second language. Moreover be able to meet more people and to experience more of the diverse cultures of the world, being bilingual opens the door to more opportunity when it knocks, more than for someone who is monolingual. In the United States, Spanish is the second most spoken language after English. Being able to speak and understand Spanish in the U.S. welcomes more job opportunities and higher income.

There are many ways to go about learning Spanish. I learned Spanish in high school and complete my education by listening to music in Spanish and use of chat sites in Spanish. Other adults have learned through programs such as Rosetta Stone, take classes at night or through the recruitment of tutors.

Be an adult who has learned Spanish, I know how difficult it can be. Studies have shown it is much easier for children not only learn a second language, but also to many languages at once. For that reason, I'm in the process of teaching my son 1 year old in Spanish.

There are many tools available to children as toys, books and educational games. At home we use all the above. My son has maracas account and name the colors of the rainbow and a drum that sings the alphabet in Spanish and English. We also have a collection Book Disney board, which have educational and entertaining stories in both languages to read every day.

Another tool we use, which is a resource very beneficial for parents trying to help their children learn Spanish is television. There are many programs available in bilingual television, cable, and satellite television. Some examples from popular shows include Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go, PBS, Dragon Tales and Maya and Miguel, and Handy Manny Disney.

There is no doubt that the shows mentioned are all positive educational programs. They are English language programs for children who enter Hispanic culture and Spanish vocabulary. However, instead of just teaching vocabulary words to my son, I would like to also learn conversation skills. To do this, I also exposed to 100% of programming in Spanish.

I highly recommend that English-speaking children learn Spanish to actually watch the Spanish versions of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go on Univision instead of or along with the English versions. It opens the mind to more vocabulary and allows them to assume a higher level of conversation.

Univision has a 100% block of Spanish programming for children on Saturday mornings called Planet Metro U. U sample includes both Dora and Diego, and Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks or as they call Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks, and Inspector Gadget show about travel call Inspector Gadget's Travels.

Although it is the most popular Univision is the only Spanish-language network in the United States. There are many other networks, children's programming, which are the Spanish language. The two favorites in my house are of V-me and Cbeebies. V-me has over twenty quality program options available in Spanish for children. It is home to the Mexican version of Sesame Street Sesame Street, and host other shows are dubbed from English into Spanish as Lazy Town, Pororo, and 7 pets. There is a new program that comes in V-me I'm looking forward also called Eebee Thalia and Aventura. The host of the Thalia is a famous singer Mexican pop.

About the Author

The network Cbeebies is a Spanish Language channel dedicated to Children broadcast by BBC. In the USA it is only available to Dish Network subscribers. We have only had Dish for a couple weeks so we don’t have any favorite Cbeebies shows yet but I can already tell that this channel will be a big competitor to V-me in my home.
