The e-book readers and their little brothers and sisters:
E-book readers are becoming available from a number manufacturers and in different formats for PCs, mobile phones and PDA systems. Two of the e-book readers are popular Amazon Kindle and the Sony although competition is warming, largely due to the lack of Amazon to dominate their niche by not offering the Kindle in the UK and Europe until sales began on 19 October 2009. This policy has allowed competitors to knock on the door of the Amazon as genuine competitors.
Sony has the PRS-505 PDF and eBook Reader PRS-700, both smaller than the Kindle. However, many prefer the Sony devices that are good to handle and easy to use, and when once scored Amazon with the wide range of titles they could offer, Sony is starting to compete.
PRS users can upload the directories of public domain books, libraries offering virtually free, and also have access to Google e-books collections. Add to that the growing range of books to be added by Sony, SAB and Sony got a lot of titles to offer making her look very attractive low price, and Google e-books has corrected its one-time weakness in the technical books.
There is a big price difference between Sony and Amazon, Amazon products with price of at least $ 100 over Sony's offering. Although the choice seems to be between these two, others are becoming increasingly popular, and the Cool-er is beginning to interest many users due to its relatively low price. Retail in $ 250, is available from some outlets cheaper online, and the price more than compensates for his lack of mobility. To listen, offering MP3 capability from an SD card – well above the text to speech Kindle robotic kind of sound.
However, while much less expensive than the Kindle, the Cool-ER is only about $ 50 less than Sony, so if $ 50 is not important to you the Sony is the best by far due to their better appearance and ease of use. An additional setback for the Cool-er is that his books can be expensive to download than others. Although, as noted in the article "Cool-er: Intuitive Marketing or blatant copy ", was marketed as compatible with all eBook formats, and can operate with the books in any store in the format EPUB, including its own eBook Store also allows books to be shared (Digital Book Readers). The Kindle also wins hands on battery life in the other two.
There is more competition for the Kindle yet, not only for the Sony eReader is the # 1 in Europe. The iRex iLiad and are also Hanlin assuming greater popularity in the price. The iRex supports html, PDF, text formats and MOBI among others, while the Hanlin is the ideal choice if you need a reader eBooks with a wide range of file formats -17 in total, plus 5 graphic formats and MP3.
However, if the range of formats is important, Bebook offers 25! Capable with Macs and PCs, has a SD memory slot, stores around 1,000 books and can play MP3 files. Bebook also comes loaded with 150 classic book titles, and the library Bebook offers around 20,000 downloads. Their main problem is the price, just $ 30 less than Sony, and what it offers no that order of choice unless you need all these file formats. The Sony is technically and aesthetically superior.
There is a most serious competition all these on the horizon, however. Mobile devices are increasingly seen as an elector. Apple offers a free application for the iPhone to be used as an eReader. It is compatible with the Kindle, and others like Clickwheel Comic Reader, eReader and stanza. Of these, the paragraph is the e-book reader in general, and can compete Kindle reader with an iPhone even though it has been bought by Amazon so its future is uncertain.
The iPhone is no cell phone that can only be reading electronic books, however, and you can use any smart phone or a PDA to read books. BlackBerry can be used for Mobipocket, mobile eReader for Symbian smartphones and is a free download, compatible with many models from Nokia and some Sony Ericsson models. EReader for Windows Mobile is available free to The Windows Mobile Smartphone and PocketPC, and the same is true for Palm OS eReader. As smart phone and Palm computer users have the option to vote freely, and these are perfectly usable. They are obviously inadequate for serious reading, but are perfect for traveling and for use in aircraft, trains and automobiles (as passengers, of course!).
If you own one of the smallest and lightest netbooks can also use it as an electronic book reader – in fact, these are becoming so small that little can be very serious competitors to voters as those currently offered by the Kindle or Sony. A small team of fully functional and that also appears as a eBook reader certainly could severely damage the products involved, assuming that users also had a requirement for small notebooks. "
In conclusion, the Kindle is still the top dog for the range of features if you are not, with which Sony is not too far because of its price. What is becoming evident is that cell phones are of a size good enough for some readers (and which cost nothing) and that the downsizing increasing "from" laptop "is to provide such a serious competitor to dedicated voter.
