Visit audio codecs â € "What are they?
Audio codecs are defined as software applications, hardware devices (with the same type of software) that can compress audio files and then decompress. In fact, the codecs used for compression and decompression work with the opposing principles, but are quite similar to each other in the way of their work.
Formats used by audio formats are the digital audio formats that are commonly used. For transmission over the Internet, codecs can also compress and convert files in streaming audio formats.
The word "codec" is derived from the coding-decoding, which is what makes a codec. Codes were first digital data into a compressed format small, and then reproduces the conversion data in the original form.
Codecs Audio â € "How do they work?
Audio codecs work with the first audio compression. This is a reduction process the size of an audio file so that is included in some of the data bits as possible. The idea is to eliminate all unnecessary bits and make sound in a format more small so that they are compressed. When the file needs to be played, a decoding system is put into play which can expand the files again so that you can play.
Lossless and lossy audio codecs
There are two types of audio compression codecs that can be done. On this basis, they are called as the lossless audio codecs and a loss.
Lossless audio codecs to keep a copy of the original audio files before his conversion, so that any qualitative or quantitative loss becomes reversible. However, this also increases file size, even after compression. It's hard to have a lossless audio codec that can compress an audio file below 50 to 60% of its original size.
With loss of audio codecs are those that do not retain any prior information. It compresses the audio to the smallest size possible, and transmit, where they are decoded to a playable size. However, there is the danger of data loss due to the fact that there is no backup created. The brighter side of this is that the loss of compressed audio files are significantly smaller in size. These files can be compressed easily 5 to 20% of its original size.
Codecs Today, most commercially available audio are the type of loss. Although they will cause a deterioration in the quality of the files, which are good for the transmission line and even the storage of records. For that reason, people prefer lossy audio codecs over losses.
Audio Codecs â € "the compensation
There is always a compromise involved when using codecs audio. It is not possible to predict in advance how these files can be compressed and if they are to play good quality to be decompressed or not. This is especially because most of the codecs used today are no losses. While this makes it ideal for sending compressed digital audio files over the Internet, also spoiling the original quality of the recording. Therefore, these audio codecs are used only sparingly and only in areas that really require them.
